Powerplay expands into education with new institutional partners
Powerplay is expanding its reach in education with the addition of Alfa-college and HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht to the partner network. Both institutions are integrating Powerplay into their curriculum as a tool for teaching about the energy transition.
Understanding energy in the classroom
Insight into the energy system is becoming increasingly important for students across a wide range of disciplines - not only energy engineering, but also business, policy, environmental science and urban planning. Powerplay offers a common language and shared experience that transcends these disciplines.
"After a single Powerplay session, our students understood the dilemmas of the energy transition better than after ten hours of theory," says Dr Marieke Vos, lecturer in Sustainability at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. "The game makes abstract policy concrete and personal."
How institutions use Powerplay
Partner institutions use Powerplay in various ways:
- Standalone sessions - a single 90-minute lesson as an introduction to the energy system
- Multi-part learning paths - in which Powerplay serves as an introduction, followed by in-depth lessons on specific topics
- Stakeholder dialogues - in which the game serves as a starting point for group discussion and debate
