Powerplay launched - Play the energy transition
Gasunie N.V. and partners have officially launched Powerplay, a web-based serious game about the energy transition. In the game, players take on the role of Minister of Energy of the fictional country Groenerwaard, faced with the same choices that real policymakers encounter every day.
Why a serious game?
The energy transition is one of the defining challenges of our time. Yet the complexity of the energy system remains abstract for most people - from students to executives. How do renewable energy, grid capacity, affordability and CO₂ targets relate to one another? What happens when you prioritise one goal over another?
Powerplay makes these questions tangible. In a session of one to two hours, players experience how difficult it is to balance sustainability, affordability and energy security at the same time.
Based on real data
Unlike many simulations, Powerplay is based on the Energy Transition Model (ETM) by Quintel. The ETM is a publicly accessible, independently validated energy model used by the Dutch national government, grid operators and energy researchers.
This means that every choice in the game has realistic consequences. No easy wins, no tricks - just the real trade-offs of the energy system.
Play it now
Powerplay is available for free at game.power-play.nl. No registration required. The game works in any modern browser and takes about 60 to 90 minutes.
